The mobile fell from my mirror and landed on the bathroom floor where I nearly stepped on it. Surely this was intended to get my attention.

My son made the mobile in church when he was two years old. Connected by yarn are small
paper hands and the message "Be Devoted to One Another." My husband had hung the mobile over our bathroom vanity mirror as a reminder for us to stay devoted to one another in our marriage. The other part of the mobile’s message that I appreciated the most was "Give each other more honor than you want for yourselves."

It was a particularly ho-hum morning when I literally almost tripped over this verse. I wasn't in the best of moods, and I probably would have stayed in bed longer if the rest of my household hadn't already been wide awake. It was one of those pity-party days. There wasn't any major reason for these doldrums. I had just listened to all the negative inner voices that morning. "You’re such a bum for sleeping in until eight when your family needed you up and at 'em by seven." "How dare you think that this is going to be a great day! It's overcast and cold outside."

I am so glad for the wake-up call that morning. When I felt blue inside, I was encouraged to reach outside of myself and put the
needs of others before my own. It’s difficult to be consumed with self-pity when I am consumed with honoring those I love.

How can you help someone today?

I don't think there is a problem with have a small self-pity party. The issue becomes when it last a long time and you decide to bring other people down with you. When I feel blue I like to write then look at what I write and by the time I am done reading what I wrote I am laughing, which changing my mood. If that doesn't work then I call my wife and we chat.
