As I continue to expand my knowledge of ASL vocabulary, I have a great desire to teach others. That desire is part of the reason I decided to start this journey of learning new signs. The other reason is because I want to test my knowledge and learn some signs along the way that I may not currently know. If you remember, a couple blog entries ago, I discussed the Expand Our Knowledge Journey that my co-worker and I started. Well, we are currently two weeks into that journey. We are using a great website to help us go through a huge vocabulary. This website is called, ASLPro. I personally find this site very helpful when I may have forgotten a sign or need to learn a new one. If any of you have a better website please leave a comment below with the information.
At this point, all of the signs we have done so far I already knew but this journey is not only for myself. This journey is to help teach a co-worker and many of you that may be visiting this blog. We originally planned on doing 4 signs a week but the coworker I am teaching is very quick to learn so we have changed this to 8 signs a week. In addition to teaching a co-worker, I'm teaching a manager for another team. This manager has expressed the desire to learn more so he may communicate more effectively with his deaf employees. I plan to discuss a little about the manager throughout this journey as well.
Below is the list of the words that I taught the last couple weeks. Unfortunately I didn't complete my videos/photos/gifs for this week. In the near future, I plan on creating videos to help teach you all but until then please reference ASLPro.com to learn the signs below. While learning these signs not only practice signing them but try putting them into a sentence. The more you practice using a sign the easier it will be for you to remember it when you need it. It is even a good idea as you are learning a new week of sign to go back and ensure you also remember the signs from the previous week. If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please let me know in the comments below.
As our journey continues, I would love to know of anything you all would like to learn or if there is something you want Seth and I to learn. Do you want us to only teach you new signs or do you want us to expand to teaching how to sign sentences, teach about culture, and more? Please join Seth and I to see what kinds of signs we learn next!
