I will be posting some pictures that may have been posted already but today as I write this 4th September 2012 is my sons Birthday he is 5 today asleep after a lovely birthday. TinyTalk turned 10 this year back in April and on the 8th September 4 years ago I taught my very first TinyTalk baby signing class.
Oh my how rude of me I am Heather and I teach baby signing in the UK and use BSL signs within the TinyTalk curriculum but also studied up to BSL NVQ Level 3 and today I am happy as have been looking at my sons signing photos over the years. I do wish I had more of him but getting a picture of a baby signing is quite a task and a good camera is needed not mine that seems to take a second or so later and missed the sign many times.
Yes 4 years ago I taught my very first class and who inspired me to learn about baby signing? my baby Azad, before he was born I knew I wanted to teach him to sign and he did although when he was 18 months old he had a very good vocabulary he stopped signing and broke my heart but saying that as you may have seen I have plenty of signing pictures of him as he grew as he came back to signing as he then found it fun and also with meeting some people that use signs solely to communicate has inspired the children so its a two way situation really as my learning has inspired two of my children to learn also which is really good. The picture was taken last week of my son riding his back on a special bike ride in Leicester, he surprised me as did the whole 5 miles and now is cycling to school and back I am a proud mummy.
So this year is a good year for TinyTalk UK as we have been going for 10 years here in the UK and on the main site offering first time families a class free to try, now is a fantastic time to take that offer as the families will learn all the starter signs but you can join any time in the term.
My milestone is not so huge with teaching for 4 years and the Toddlers for 2 years but what I am really proud of is my little boy who came to my sessions for 2 years helping me within the sessions probably causing havoc but non the less he was popular among the families with his character. Or was he a rascal?? i will post a video shortly and you can see how he was near to the end of his time in my classes when I thought hmmm now is the time to think about having someone look after him while I teach. That is a good thing about teaching baby signing though you can take your baby with you it is lovely.
After watching the clip you will most likely guess who my little boy is, this was filmed a week after the photo on the left, in the photo I am helping my son sign as he was shy and if your child will let you then it helps if you guide them with your hands. You might wonder why I am wearing a scarf well the reason is that I do follow Islam and it was the month of Ramadan but when Central news came to film it wasn't any more and I went out and had a nice hair cut for the occasion.
What I am trying to say is I love my son Azad very much and this Saturday which is TinyTalk Leicesters 4th Birthday my son will be having his 5th birthday party with my friend from Cheeky Monkeys And Friends doing the entertainment for me. I have done the entertainment for his parties in the past but thought would give Micheal a try and his monkey madness.
Then after we will be going to a BSL social BBQ with students that have been taught by my teacher.
I have really enjoyed teaching TinyTalk and will go on for many years to come. Today I put many pictures of my son on my facebook page TinyTalk Leicester to celebrate him turning 5.
I realized I didnt use the same pictures as before, I was going to tee hee but spared you that.
This Friday I am teaching those all important starter signs to many new parents to baby signing, I will watch many babies grow again and wish them all the very best of luck. Remember to start with just a few and do browse back through the blog, there are a couple of posts about starting to sign, signed stories etc. Have fun and now I am going to have a cuddle with my youngest son as I have 4 children in all but never knew about baby signing then, such a shame but so happy I found out about it.
Enjoy your week my dears Heather Avul TinyTalk Leicester
