OOOO I was so very happy when my former teacher let me have the news that I have obtained this qualification, I was thrilled beyond words.
The NVQ was a lot more work to put in than levels 1 and 2 although I remember how my head hurt when first learning level one as I sing and sign in my day to day baby signing that I love so very much. Yes so level 1 gave me a head ache as all of a sudden it was voice switched of, level 2 was slightly harder but the foundation was there and a bit more natural flow more non manual features and yes all the role play and was good fun too.
The NVQ though wow all that paper work, now I am not a paperwork kind of lady oh no plus many clips that needed filming but yes I did it and I am so very happy.
So now what, well I will continue to do the baby signing as I love it and getting ready for the Christmas lesson plan, but also some of the mums that come along to the sessions and have been to the baby signing sessions and also to the toddler talking sessions want to move on to learn more sign language, with baby signing we are reminded to keep to the curriculum as the signs we use are the ones that are relevant to a baby's life and the toddlers life etc and also to always talk as we sign this is very important for a hearing baby as talking will help speech signing will help communication before speech and using the two together is very powerful indeed, I also firmly believe if talking as signing to a Deaf baby it helps with lip reading and that when signing to another Deaf person will learn the body language and non manual features its a win win. So what next for me, well I would love to help these mums that want to learn more so I need to find out what I need to do so I can teach level 1 in BSL. I do know I will need to go on a Adult teaching course, although would love to teach children also at a later date but taking one step at a time.
That is it for now and back to baby signing next week.
Until then why not sign I love you to someone special in BSL it is point to your self then put both hands on your chest for love, then point to the person you love, do this every day to your children, I tell you when they do this back through the school window the feeling is wonderful.
I am a mother of 4, teach baby signing and also BSL level 2 qualified, love TKD and much more.
