It has been a while since my last blog post.
I am Heather and have been a baby signing teacher now for over six years.
I started to learn BSL along with my baby, I had no previous knowledge what's so ever.
I went along to TinyTalk baby signing classes in another city and learnt some very basic signs.
I also did an online basic BBC BSL course as well which really helped me too.
I went onto teach baby signing but I was hungry for more so when my baby who nursed and stayed with me in a sling most of the time was one I went on a BSL level one course.
I found learning BSL very hard. Baby signing was easy we talk as we sign but BSL at first gave me a head ache, my brain was not used of working in this way to understand communication plus I was able to sign but my receptive skills meaning understanding another person's signing needed work.
luckily by week three I didnt get a headache and with the online help of signature is waltzed through level one and passed.
this meant I could then have this as a qualification on my website and make it look better for me and so families would have faith in my BSL although for what we teach we only teach 150 signs but at the time it seemed really important.
I thought got hungry to learn more. so I did it went on to level two the following year and then to level three or rather NVQ BSL Level three which was extremely hard but most rewarding and amazing.
I stopped there but having a baby and helping him to communicate before he could talk also was the beginning of my own journey to learn a whole new language.
I would like to go on to level six but that is in the future.
It is a very exciting journey indeed.
I am a mother of 4, teach baby signing and also BSL level 2 qualified, love TKD and much more.
