Most of us grow up being told we can't do anything because of one thing. I am fortunate that the single thing was not a barrier for me.
Folks, I think we already know that we are deaf, we do not need the overemphasis of what we are. We are DEAF, we get it!
Even if one gets it, we still get the ' You can't do this. You can't do that' all because of that one thing we already know well and it is deeply ingrained into our very fiber of being, whether we want it or not.
"Through Deaf Eyes", the PBS show, there was this guy who said, 'we never really thought we couldn't, we knew that we can. It is funny that deaf people know they can but the rest of the world says we can't'.
Frankly folks, I am getting tired of the "can'ts", because those "can'ts" are the reason why many of us are dependent on social programs.
We are more than our hearing loss. We are whole. We CAN and already have proven that.
To Be Whole
